Xmas 22/12/11

I call the first three photo's Santa's Adorable helpers!

I love Christmas and every year since I have been with Home Grown Kids, my December visits have continued to follow the same traditions.

I set up a box, with paints, glue, sequins, ribbons, laminated photo's of the children, aprons, newspaper for the table, wet wipes, a portable CD player, a love to sing Christmas CD and my trusty hairdryer.

Each child gets a wooden decoration to paint. Once they have painted the decoration, I whip out my hairdryer to dry the paint so that children can then decorate it with 'Bling' (Sparkly sequins). When the children have finished creating their masterpieces. I pop their photo inside and write their name and the year on the back.

The children love doing this and their faces light up once they realise it is a photo of them inside the decoration.

Nelson SPCA Visit 26/9/11

Today we went on a visit to the Nelson SPCA. We donated either money or pet food to help them care for the animals that need new homes.

We saw lots of different animals at the SPCA. We saw puppies, dogs, cats, goats, kids, sheep, lambs, alpaca, rabbits, guinea pigs, ducks, cockatiels, and a very big sleepy pig.

The lady showed us how to safety meet a new dog, by putting out hand out for the dog to smell before we pat them. We also must remember to ask an adult before touching any dog.
We had a great time and we all could have taken a few extra pets home with us!

Nelson Playgroup 21/9/11

Today at play group we made yummy Corn Fritters.

Corn Fritters Recipe

Ingredients

3/4 cup of flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of salt
black pepper
1 egg
1 can cream-style corn
oil (for frying)

Directions:

1/ Beat egg in a bowl
2/ Add can of corn, mix together
3/ Combine dry ingredients together
4/ Mix wet and dry ingredients together
5/ Heat Oil in frying pan. Drop heaped tablespoons of batter into the pan.
6/ Cook until golden, then flip.
7/ Drain on absorbent paper.

We liked adding bacon and onion to ours :)

Playgroup 2/9/11

Here are some pictures of the cool cards and presents the children at Playgroup made for their Dads for Fathers day this Sunday- its a surprise so don't tell them!!!

Beach Day Fun 5/8/11

We dressed up warm and we met our Home Grown Kids friends at the Tahunanui Beach Park for a winter outing.
We climbed, we slid, we swung, we balanced, we laugh and we had warm Milos and yummy Marshmellows for morning tea to keep us warm.

We had lots of fun at the park!

Fun With Ice 4/8/11

Sushi! 7/12/10

We made Sushi on Wednesday at playgroup and it was lots of fun and it tasted really yummy and it was very healthy for us.

Jean's Last Day at HGK 8/11/10

Thursday the 4th November marked Jean's last day with HGK.

Le'a presented her with a present and a card with help from some of our Nelson children.

We wish Jean all the best for the future!

Blossom Shower 27/10/10

What better way to have fun with Spring! These children are in the care of one of our Nelson Educators, Karaena, and isn't this what home-based is all about...

Fire Station Visit 8/10/10

We went on an outing to the Nelson Fire Station today 6/10 and were luckily enough to have a play around with their 1.2 million dollar ladder truck :)

Fathers Day! 1/9/10

Last Wednesday we made photo frames (with love) as presents for the children's Dad's for Father's day.

Chocolate Velvet Outing 16/6/10

Today we went on an outing to Chocolate Velvet.
We had to wash our hands and wear hair nets when we were in the bakery.
We made and decorated our own Gingerbread men.
We had lots of fun at Chocolate Velvet and the Gingerbread tasted yummy!!

Ceramic Outing May 2010

We watched a bowl being made out of clay on the potters wheel. We touched the bowl and it felt, wet and cold- it wobbled a lot.
Then we saw the kilns that are very hot and are used to fire the ceramics to make them hard and dry.
We all had a turn to paint our own bowl with glaze.
We can't wait to see what they look like when they have been fired in the kiln.

Nelson Active Movement Playgroup 5/5/10

Train Trip!

Wednesday the 21st of April 2010.

We went a special train ride at Founders Park. The last train service in Nelson was in 1955. We sat in a carriage that was 100 years old.T he engine pulled the carriages along the track to the station. We swapped to an open carriage at the Grovetown Station. There we lots of things to see on the way. When we got back to the main station the children played together on the playground. We all had a great time.

The 2010 Taylors Nelson Women's Triathlon, and our HGK team!

We had to do a 3km walk (4 of us walked) or a 5km run (2 ran), a 14km bike ride and a 400m swim.

Xmas Morning Tea Playgroup!
