Baby Wipes Withdrawal 20/9/11http://www.countdown.co.nz/17695/Countdown-Story/news-and-media-releases Progressive Enterprises has voluntarily withdrawn a number of baby wipe products after it was discovered that the products contain a preservative that is restricted in New Zealand. Follow Link Here The withdrawn baby wipes contain a chemical iodopropynyl butylcarbamate (IPBC) and therefore do not comply with New Zealand standards. Progressive Enterprises is taking this matter very seriously and has launched an investigation into how this occurred. The following products have been withdrawn from sale as they contain IPBC: • Precious Flushable Wipes | 40pk • Woolworths Select Baby Wipe | 80PK TUB UNSCENTED • Woolworths Select Baby Wipe | VALUE SCENTED 480PK • Woolworths Select Baby Wipe | 40 PK TRAVEL SCENTED • Woolworths Select Baby Wipe | 80PK REFIL UNSCENTED • Woolworths Select Baby Wipe | 80PK REFILL SCENTED • Home Brand Baby Wipes | LIGHT 150PK • Home Brand Baby Wipes | 80PK In addition, the following products have been withdrawn from sale as the packaging incorrectly states that the products contain IPBC: • Silk Baby Wipes Fragrance Free Plus | 80PK • Silk Baby Wipes Thick and Soft | Boy 90s • Silk Baby Wipes Thick and Soft | Girl 90s If customers are concerned about any symptoms in infants and children (whether related to the use of baby wipes or not) they should seek medical attention. Measles OutbreakTo all Early Childhood Education service managers 9 August 2011 The measles outbreaks in Auckland and Waikato are mainly affecting unimmunised school children. By August 8, 175 measles cases had been reported this year, including 19 who have needed hospital treatment. Most cases were in the Auckland region, although 24 cases were reported in Hawke’s Bay this year. In the past week, 12 cases have been reported in the Waikato region, mainly around Te Awamutu. Measles symptoms Measles is a highly infectious disease and is more serious than many people realise. Symptoms include fever, rash, cough, red eyes and a runny nose, and then a rash which develops after about 3 days. Complications include middle ear infections, pneumonia, and, more rarely, encephalitis or brain inflammation, and about one in ten people need to be hospitalised. The best measles prevention is the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine which is free for all New Zealand children. Prevent measles at your early childhood service 1. Inform staff, parents and caregivers of the measles outbreaks and the possibility that measles may spread to other parts of the country. 2. Update your Immunisation Register. These must be maintained by all Early Childhood Education Centres under the Health (Immunisation) Regulations 1995. This allows unimmunised children who have been in contact with someone with measles to be quickly identified to help reduce the risk of further spread. 3. Ask parents and caregivers to make sure that their children’s immunisations are up-to-date. Staff born during or after 1969 should also make sure that they are fully vaccinated for measles. Measles at your early childhood service: 1. If a child becomes unwell with possible measles while at your service, ensure that they are kept separate from other children while waiting to be taken home. This helps minimise the risk of measles spreading. 2. GPs and health professionals are required to notify the local medical officer of health of any suspected cases of measles. Once a notification is confirmed, the ECE will be contacted by public health staff who will provide information and advice. 3. A child or teacher with measles should stay away from ECE services for seven days from the appearance of the rash or until recovery, depending on the advice of the medical officer of health. Unimmunised children, or those with no immunity to measles, who have been in close contact with a measles case during the infectious stages should be excluded from the ECE service for 14 days from their last contact, again depending on the advice of the medical officer of health. If you have questions about the Ministry of Education requirements please contact your local Ministry of Education office. You can find contact details Here More Information For further health information on measles please go to the Ministry of Health Website You can also call the Immunisation Advisory Centre toll-free line 0800 IMMUNE (0800 466 863) for advice. If you would like to discuss these issues, please contact your local public health service. You can find more information Here Thank you for your support.
